Placentia is a town rich in history. In 1779, the population of Placentia was 11,000 - double that of the present. Small fishing boats and great ships filled the bay.

The Basques, Portuguese, Spanish, English and French have all competed for Placentia’s well protected harbour. Visit sites of old forts, travel back in time with interpretive tours, and visit local museums. O’Reilly House Museum is two doors away from Rosedale Manor. and a short walk from Rosedale will take to Castle Hill, where you can view ruins of one of Placentia’s many old forts offering breathtaking views overlooking Placentia and the coast.
